LUSAKA – AIRTEL Zambia has reported a 12.2 percent growth in its subscriber base to 12.5 million in the past 12 months.
It has thus maintained its status as the largest mobile network operator in the Southern African country by subscriber base.
The telecommunications operator disclosed that revenue increased by 25.7 percent, while operating profit rose by 35.9 percent and net profit grew by 40.9 percent during the period.
Airtel also disclosed that during the period it rolled out 406 new sites, connected an additional 370,000 people, and was awarded the highest taxpayer status in the information and telecommunication technology (ICT) sector.
The operator held its Annual General Meeting at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka.
“It was a strong year across the board,” the Lusaka Securities Exchange (LuSE)-listed company stated.
The operator reported that growth was driven by continued network expansion, increased access points, and a focus on improving customer experience.
A subsidiary of the 14-country Airtel Africa, the company began operations in Zambia at the end of 1998.
It holds approximately 48 percent of total mobile subscribers in the Zambian market.
