NAIROBI – KENYA and the European Union (EU) are exploring ways to foster digital dialogue.
The East African country’s Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the Digital Economy is spearheading the process.
On Tuesday, Principal Secretary for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the Digital Economy, John Tanui, met a European Union (EU) delegation led by Renate Nikolay, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission.
The meeting aimed to explore shared areas of interest to foster a digital dialogue between Kenya and the European Union (EU).
Tanui said the discussions focused on key areas, including advancing sovereign cloud infrastructure with an energy efficiency focus, and joint efforts on submarine cable repairs alongside broader technology sovereignty.
He said the solid foundation of collaboration with European Union (EU) member states and Kenya’s digital ambitions reaffirmed the country’s push for transformation through strategic international partnerships.
“As we advance towards artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies, rather than merely consuming them, we aim to actively participate and innovate alongside global partners,” Tanui said.
“This engagement underscores Kenya’s commitment to leveraging technology for economic growth and deeper European Union (EU) collaboration,” Tanui added.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) directors and other senior government officials attended the Tuesday meeting.
