NAIROBI – THE presidential assent to the Technopolis Act marks a significant moment in Kenya’s journey towards a globally competitive digital and innovation-driven economy.

President William Ruto assented to the legislation on Monday.

The Technopolis law provides Kenya with a comprehensive legal framework for the creation, development and governance of world-class technopolises, positioning the country as a premier destination for technology-driven enterprises, research, innovation and advanced manufacturing.

“This is more than legislation. It is a strategic investment in Kenya’s future,” said John Tanui, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Information and Communication Technology and the Digital Economy.

He said the framework would create integrated one-stop hubs for efficient government service delivery, significantly improving the ease of doing business, attracting global investors, nurturing innovation ecosystems and accelerating the growth of a knowledge-based digital economy.

The expanded Special Economic Zones framework, including support for advanced technology production, agro-processing, manufacturing, mining and petroleum operations, signals Kenya’s readiness for large-scale, long-term investment.

The provision of a minimum 10-year licence tenure has been hailed as transformative, offering the stability required for major capital-intensive projects and innovation ecosystems to thrive.

Kenya is steadily positioning itself not just as East Africa’s Silicon Savannah, but as a continental hub for technology, research, digital talent and industrial transformation.

“This bold move reinforces confidence in Kenya’s economic future and demonstrates visionary leadership focused on innovation, competitiveness and sustainable growth,” Tanui said.
