LUSAKA – IN a breakthrough aligned with the government’s digitalisation of public administration, Zambian citizens can now apply for urban development services online.

This follows the unveiling of the Property Management Information System (PMIS) by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, in conjunction with the Smart Zambia Institute, the administration’s e-government division.

PMIS is an e-government platform developed to digitise and streamline public infrastructure administration.

With the platform now live, members of the public can conveniently apply and pay online for services such as government property rentals, property valuation consultancy services, management department services, urban housing and horticultural services, including the online purchase of plants.

The digital software framework is used by real estate agencies, private landlords and corporate property developers to automate rental operations, track tenancies and process local financial transactions.

“The initiative aligns with government’s commitment under the 8NDP to modernise public infrastructure administration and enhance service delivery,” said Prof Albert Malama, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development.

The 8NDP is the acronym for the Eighth National Development Plan.

Developed by local information and communication technology (ICT) firm CoreLink Consulting Limited, PMIS is integrated with ZamPortal and ZamPay.

ZamPortal is the official government e-services portal providing more than 100 digital public services, while ZamPay is the official payment gateway.
