WINDHOEK – BANK Windhoek, Namibia’s largest locally owned commercial bank, has launched its WhatsApp banking platform.

This is the country’s first full-capability WhatsApp banking channel.

The government has hailed the moment as a milestone.

“The launch marks a significant step in Namibia’s digital transformation, reflecting the growing convergence of banking, communication and technology,” Linda Nakale, Executive Director of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, said.

She delivered the statement in Windhoek on Monday as she presided over the launch of the platform in the capital.

Nakale emphasised the need for innovation to boost strong cybersecurity measures, data protection and consumer-focused regulations to ensure a safe and inclusive digital ecosystem.

The official said the platform was poised to enhance access to financial services by meeting customers in digital spaces they already use daily, while advancing financial inclusion.

Established in 1982, Bank Windhoek maintains more than 50 branches and a network of over 400 automated teller machines in the Southern African country.
