CAPE TOWN – VODACOM South Africa is advancing digital inclusion and community development across the Western Cape through targeted investments in education, empowerment and infrastructure, reaching thousands of beneficiaries in the region.
The company says its initiatives are aligned with a broader goal of using technology to unlock opportunity while strengthening essential services.
“Guided by our purpose to connect people for a better future, Vodacom Western Cape continues to invest in initiatives that enable access to quality education, empower women and youth with digital skills, provide critical support in times of need, and strengthen our network infrastructure,” said Waldi Wepener.
Education remains a central pillar of Vodacom’s efforts.
Through the Vodacom Foundation, the company supports Schools of Excellence and Early Childhood Development centres, providing infrastructure upgrades, connectivity, devices and digital training.
These interventions aim to equip young people with skills suited for an increasingly digital economy.
Programmes such as the Youth Academy have already trained more than 170 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, offering technical skills and workplace experience.
At the same time, the introduction of coding, robotics and virtual classroom solutions at selected schools is positioning learners for careers in technology-driven industries.
Additional support, including psychosocial services, has also been introduced to address challenges such as bullying and gender-based violence.
Vodacom is also investing in women’s empowerment through digital skills training. In the Western Cape, female farmers have received training to help them access markets and improve productivity using technology.
The company has further supported survivors of gender-based violence, helping them rebuild their lives through digital literacy and economic participation.
Beyond education and empowerment, Vodacom has played a key role in disaster response. Partnering with Gift of the Givers, the company contributed funding to support communities affected by fires and floods, delivering essential supplies including food, clothing and medical assistance.
Infrastructure investment remains another priority. Vodacom has committed hundreds of millions of rand to enhance network capacity and resilience across the province, ensuring reliable connectivity even during emergencies.
“Vodacom is committed to going beyond connectivity to make a lasting difference in people’s lives,” Wepener said. “By using technology as a force for good, we are helping to build a more inclusive and sustainable future.”
